CHAPTER 14

Nash’s blood hummed through his body. It took every ounce of restraint to keep his feet rooted to the floor and not chase Lexi’s perfectly shaped retreating ass.

She’d kissed him. That move had propelled them into the sex zone. He wanted her. More than he’d ever wanted anyone. Just breathing her scent, watching her move, and the odd touch of her hand sent his desire into a blazing fire. She’d told him at the church that she wasn’t interested, and although her kiss belied that, there could be truth to those words. She might be interested but not want to get involved with him. He couldn’t blame her. The question was, what the fuck could he do? All he had to go by were her signals, and he’d follow them to a T if it killed him.

He brought his attention back to the phone in his hand and swiped to accept the call.

“What the hell, dude?” Cole barked into his ear.

Nash winced at his brother’s pissed-off tone. He’d promised to call him when he got to Moscow. “Sorry, man. It’s been a shitshow.”

He dragged his hand over the counter, wiping a small pile of crumbs into the sink. Lexi had dropped a fucking bomb on him, and his brain was still trying to pick up the pieces. If Lionsgate was involved with what she claimed, he couldn’t turn his back. If he was guilty by association, he needed to make amends. He’d be damned if he let any child suffer under the name of his brotherhood.

Cole grunted. “You should have called me.”

“I know. Look, I need your help with something else. But I can’t tell you over the phone.”

“All right, I can come to you. Are you home?”

“We’re about to leave. I can be at your place in an hour.”

“Who’s ‘we’?”

Shit. Nash pressed his fist to his forehead. He planned on telling Cole about Lexi, but he needed to ease him into it. When he’d called Cole after Lexi stole the ledger, he’d been on a rampage. Now he was hiding and protecting her.

A beat passed. “Never mind,” Cole said. “Dare showed me the picture of the woman who drugged your stupid ass. I get it.” Cole’s voice pitched in amusement.

“Yeah, yeah. Go ahead and laugh. But hold your breath until we chat. I need your help and this is dangerous territory.”

Cole’s laugh subsided. “You know I’m down for whatever.”

“Good.” He pulled the phone from his ear, ready to disconnect, and then quickly brought it back. “And Cole.”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t breathe a word about this to anyone. Don’t even mention you talked to me.”

“All right.” It was the first time he’d ever heard Cole’s voice flounder.

Nash disconnected and turned his attention to the coffee. A few minutes later, Lexi came downstairs. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes somber.

He passed her a travel mug. “Everything okay?”

She wrapped her hands around the steel and inhaled the aroma before taking a long sip. “Mmm. Thank you.” She kept the mug at her lips, and her eyes drifted to his.
